The motor gave out in head the old Dyson Animal, after maybe 25 or 30 years and three batteries, so I'll use it for the small brush and crevice tool, and use this newer version for everything else. I'm delighted that this newer Dyson Animal has improved in every way from the prior. It was a bee-itch cleaning out the dust bin on the old one, always needed to disassemble and get dust, and the release mechanism was touchy, hard to use. The new one has a lever to at the top of the bin that opens the bottom o the bin, lets the dust fall out, and sweeps the filter clean, is easy to just hold it over the trash bag and make no mess, don't touch the dust. This was bought as refurbished with a warranty as new, in a plain box but has no signs of use. My old Dyson Animal is the first version, and now we're up to V8 and V9. I don't know at which point they made everything better, but I expect this will outlive me. I should say that the replacement part for the old vacuum is still available, but I'm happy I ditched it and got a new machine...
